MacKayla
Lane’s life is good. She has great friends, a decent job, and a car that breaks
down only every other week or so. In other words, she’s your perfectly ordinary
twenty-first-century woman. Or so she thinks…until something extraordinary
happens.
When her sister is murdered, leaving a single clue to her death–a cryptic message on Mac’s cell phone–Mac journeys to Ireland in search of answers. The quest to find her sister’s killer draws her into a shadowy realm where nothing is as it seems, where good and evil wear the same treacherously seductive mask. She is soon faced with an even greater challenge: staying alive long enough to learn how to handle a power she had no idea she possessed–a gift that allows her to see beyond the world of man, into the dangerous realm of the Fae….
As Mac delves deeper into the mystery of her sister’s death, her every move is shadowed by the dark, mysterious Jericho, a man with no past and only mockery for a future. As she begins to close in on the truth, the ruthless Vlane–an alpha Fae who makes sex an addiction for human women–closes in on her. And as the boundary between worlds begins to crumble, Mac’s true mission becomes clear: find the elusive Sinsar Dubh before someone else claims the all-powerful Dark Book–because whoever gets to it first holds nothing less than complete control of the very fabric of both worlds in their hands….

Ok
so this series has a bit of a story to it …
OMG
I loved this series. But first to how I came to reading it.
I
have never been much of a paranormal fan (apart from Harry Potter and Twilight
– pretty tame!). So when a friend at work recommended this book (Darkfever) and
explained it to me I thought it sounded ridiculous!! The words ‘fairies’,
‘monsters’ and ‘druids’, (I didn’t even know what they were!) were thrown into
the description I thought it sounded pretty suss. I just politely nodded along
to what she was saying, when in my mind I was thinking “I’m never going to read
these books. Ever!”
Well
apparently I looked very interested and the next day at work she was lending
them to me with this excited look on her face,
“Thanks
Krystal! I can’t wait to get started on these!!!” … I was raised to be very
polite. I had a feeling the she wasn’t going to give up easily so I decided to
give them a try.
So
it begins….
As
I started reading, the book ticked off one of my favourite things about the
heroines.
Can
you guess it???
Probably
not! As Kerry says to me nearly every day, ‘you’re a complete weirdo?’
“Thanks
Kerry, I love you too!”
I
loved it already because MacKayla (the main character) was blonde J lol!!!
Okay
so she’s blonde … tick … good start. From then on I was completely obsessed. I
turned into a zombie to the outside world. Now Krystal only gave me the first
three books and I’m not joking, I read them from Friday night to Saturday
evening. As I was finishing the last pages of the third book I went into full
and complete panic mode…. I needed the rest! I needed to know what was going to
happen! It had taken over my life and I needed more! I was addicted to it! I
was having withdrawals already!!!
So
this is how my mind works …
“Okay
Rachel … breathe … it’s cool, you can wait until Monday at work … it will be
fine!” “MONDAY … AT WORK … I will have to wait until Monday, then all day, and then
I have to drive home before I will be able to read them!!!!” “OMG!!! It’s not
fine … aaaaarrrrrrrgggggggggg I need to read the rest now …. Panic, panic,
panic, panic …” Then I lay down and started rolling on the floor! (I hadn’t had
much sleep as you can imagine!)
It
was like watching half of a really good movie, then switching it off to come
back in a couple of days! You just don’t do it, especially if you love every
part of it!
I
desperately text Krystal to see if I could come and pick up the next one … when
she said she was out I started freaking out even more … Well who was the lucky
person who got a phone call? Yay Kerry. Thank God Kerry listened to my
ramblings about phoning 10 different places to get a copy of number four. (and
by the way, no one had even heard of them). So probably just to shut me up and
get back to her own life, Kerry bought them off Kindle and lent me her iPad.
Absolute Legend!
Now
I’m a very fast reader and sometimes when I finish reading a book I forget some
of the freaky fine details (a bit like I did with 50 Shades). There are some
parts of this book that I know will probably creep some people out … and I’m
not saying it didn’t creep me out either. Death-by-sex Fae … hmmmm .., but I
was far too engrossed and too in love to really notice how weird some parts
where.
Hahaha,
ok so a little bit about the actual book.
The
basic storyline revolves around MacKayla, who travels to Ireland to find her
sister’s killer. When she meets Barrons (OMG!) she discovers that her life is
not what she thought it was. MacKayla is a Sidhe-Seer - she has the power to
see Fae. As she learns more and more about her sister’s murder she finds
herself deeper and deeper into the dark world of the Fae.
Holy
mother of God I love Barron’s so much! He is a badass and so dam hot. MacKayla
is amazing as well. I love her too (not the Fever Moon comic book version of
her though, where she looks like a cougar!)
The
writing was so involved and in depth. Everything had such great detail that you
could imagine it all without having to try that hard.
I
was a little sad once the series finished because I could have read more about
them and all their adventures, but I’m glad it ended how I wanted it too … well
kind of … I wanted more, but if you have read it already you would know that
what I wanted to read about is not how Barron’s rolls.
Definitely,
absolutely, positively, with out a doubt one of my favourite series…
Favourite Quotes from the book:
“A good book lets you choose a few thoughts for yourself. Movies show you a pink house. A good book tells you there's a pink house and lets you paint some of the finishing touches, maybe choose the roof style, park you own car out the front.” – MacKayla Lane
"One must break with one's past to embrace one's future. It is never an easy thing to do. It is one of the distinguishing characteristics between survivors and victims. Letting go of what was, to survive what is." - Jericho Barrons
"I learned that you can discover just as much from what people don't say to you, as what they do. It's not enough to listen to their words. You have to mine their silences for buried ore. It's often only in the lies we refuse to speak that any truth can be heard at all." - MacKayla Lan
"Womankind's greatest mistakes: falling in love with a man's potential. We so rarely share the same view of it, and even more rarely care to achieve it." - Jericho Barrons

UPDATE!!!
I
have just read this on Karen Marie Moning's blog…
"Exciting
news: I’ve agreed to write two more books after that (i.e. the Fever spin-off
trilogy). Once the new trilogy is complete, I’m returning to the core story
begun in the FEVER series, and will resume writing about Mac, Barrons, V’lane,
Cruce, the Unseelie king, the concubine, the Song of Making.
All in all, there are five more books coming about the Fever World!
Because I know you guys, I know this is going to make some of you as nervous as it makes you excited. Trust me. I’m making no compromises with the characters or the story. It’s all unfolding exactly as it should, true to itself-which means, it’s a sometimes rocky road. Dark times ahead, guys. But I write it all with genuine love for the characters, the world, and you the reader."

How exciting,
unfortunately we are going to have to wait until 2015 and 2016 for these next
two books L
ANOTHER NOTE:
If you didn’t know
there is a chapter in Barron’s POV that was released on the 21st
July 2011. It is set at the beginning just after Mackayla and Barron’s met for
the first time. It was amazing and was like everything coming together. I think
my mouth hung open for about an hour after I read it (and reread it and reread
it…). It has an AMAZING twist. You can find it here…

I love this series. I want a Jericho Barrons in my life ;) I am now following your blog please follow me back at
