Release Date: July 29th 2012
Jack and Lexi never had a typical relationship. After 2 years without speaking, she receives a phone call that changes everything. He unexpectedly asks her to convince the new girl, Bekah, that he’s ready to commit. Jack is calling now after everything they had been through because there is another woman. She can’t believe it. Follow Lexi in this heart wrenching drama as she relives her past relationship, or lack thereof, with Jack, and not just in her own mind, but to his fiancé-to-be. Throw in Bekah’s hot brother who always seems to be in the right place at the right time, a past with more secrets to unravel than you can even imagine, and you get a recipe for disaster. Find out what happens to Lexi as she travels to Atlanta to get the closure she so desperately desires from Jack, and how the bumps of life seem to keep getting in the way.
This was another one of those books that you just can’t seem to put down. I was literally obsessed. K.A. Linde is an absolutely amazing author. The way that she draws you into the drama of the story and the lives of the characters is wonderful.
At the start Lexi receives a phone call from her past/present/never gotten over flame, Jack asking her to come to his home in Atlanta. He is getting married and his future wife isn’t convinced he is ready to commit. Lexi is shocked. After not hearing from Jack for two years and their, well let’s call it, a somewhat complicated history, she can not believe he is asking this of her. When her best friend Chyna encourages her to go and seek the closure she so desperately needs, Lexi reluctantly agrees.
Just as the story is sucking you in you are thrown back six years. Suddenly you are drawn into a whole new story. You unexpectedly find yourself, just like Lexi, falling head over heels in love with Jack. Why would you? He is tall, muscular and handsome. Everything he says and does is so sincere. Being with Jack is so comfortable and easy. Well how wrong we all were! But just as we are getting some answers we are brought back to the present.
The whole story flicks you between the present day back to the past. You need to know the past to help you understand the history that Lexi and Jack have. Their deep connection is magnetic. They are physically drawn to each other, and no matter how hard they try, their desire and love seems to bring them together. The problem is the timing has never been right. It’s Jack that won’t make the grand gesture though.
Behind his cool, sexy exterior Jack is a perpetual liar. Every word that comes out his mouth is a lie. He says whatever he needs too, to get what he wants. What makes it worse is that he continually tells Lexi that he will never lie to her. Her attraction for him clouds her mind and judgment and she believes everything he says. When he breaks her heart countless times, he can mend it with a touch, a look, a few simple words, and Lexi is putty in his hands. Sometimes you just want to punch her in the face, while other times you are being played as much as she is. Jack loves Lexi so deeply but can not and will not commit to her, while Lexi is so drawn to him. It is toxic. There is no other way to describe their relationship. Poisonous … Deadly … Toxic!!! They hurt them selves, they hurt each other, and they hurt everybody around them that they care about. But they can’t seem to help them selves.
Rachel and I usually have the same opinion about most of the guys we read about in books, but with Jack it was different. I didn’t like him at all. I don’t know whether it was that I could see what their relationship was doing to them and everyone else, or whether I just didn’t believe the BS that came out of his mouth. All he was was hot air, broken promises, and a waste of her time and energy. He was out to destroy every chance Lexi ever had at happiness, and for what? So that she could long for him endlessly, never moving on, while he went off and got married. He wanted to keep her as a bird on a string. I don’t think so Jack, I don’t buy it!
I (Rachel) had a love/hate relationship with Jack. I just didn’t understand him at all. He could be so sweet and kind and loving, then he could turn around and be a complete dick, making you wonder which side is the real Jack? I could feel how much he truly did love Lexi and, like her, I kept a little place in my heart for him.
We can’t forget some other key characters in the story. Bekah *cough*slut*cough*, Jack’s future wife. A high class, country club brat, with perfectly straight blonde hair, blue eyes, manicured nails and flawless skin. Before believing that Jack is ready to settle down with her, Bekah is determine to met, and ‘interview’, everyone that Jack has ever dated (that should be fun. Not!) Now for my favourite, Ramsey, Bekah’s older brother. What is not to love about Ramsey? He is sexy, tall, funny, flirty, kind and protective. I was rooting for Ramsey from the second that he was introduced. He was such an easy going guy.
The ending completely threw me. I’m so glad that there is another book because the story was so unfinished. It left you feeling unsatisfied and confused. Let’s hope that Linde will come through with the second book and give us the answers we need, to fall in love with this series forever.
